I find myself so busy this February that my computer time is extremely sporadic. I enjoy going to boards, galleries and blogs for inspiration and ideas but lately find myself staying off. I'm not sure if I'm in an overload with the number of projects I'm working on and need to complete in the next week but I'm hoping it will pass so I can enjoy all the great inspiration out there again.
Tomorrow is the 100th day of school celebration at Meg's school and she had a project due. I laugh because the directions to the homework are such that really, can the kids do this stuff alone???? I made sure Meg did most of hers although she's not allowed to handle a glue gun yet so I did need to help her.
She had to pick 100 objects and be as "creative" as possible when showing them. I'm all about how can we use this after it comes home so I suggested that she put her objects on a frame. When the project comes home, she has something nice she can put in her room.
Meg chose to use buttons and as you can see, she went with a specific color scheme. As my daughter is the queen of all things pink, I wasn't surprised with her choices. She painted the frame with a couple of layers of acrylic paint. She chose the color and I have to say, I like how it works as a background. The painting wasn't thick enough to truly cover the original color of the frame but as it was just a background, the two layers she did were plenty. She then laid out the buttons on a duplicate frame and under her direction, I glued them on with a glue gun. You can't see in the picture but we added pink polka dot ribbon all around the edges of the frame to finish it off. This was a fun project to do. She enjoyed being able to get her hands into it with the painting and she was able to direct the project by choosing the buttons and their placement. I would recommend this as a fun activity with your kids and its a nice keepsake as well.
And now, Conor is itching to make one! You know me, I'll probably let him make one too.
